As places are limited, it is strongly recommended that you book for the tours and visits early
to avoid disappointment. Preference will be given in sequence as registrations are received.
Please note that for all tours a minimum number of participants is required. In case that one
of the tours will not take place, fees already payed for this tour will be refunded.

Welcome Reception  
 

A reception will be arranged for all conference attendees on Sunday evening at the Congress
Hall. Take advantage of this informal get-together to meet old friends and make new contacts
while becoming acquainted with the conference site.

Reception by the Prime Minister  
 

On Tuesday evening an official reception by the Prime Minister of the Saarland will be arranged
at the State Chancellery, located in walking distance to the Congress Hall. After the speeches,
drinks and snacks will be served.

Conference Banquet  
 

The Conference Banquet will be held on Wednesday evening in one of Saarbruecken's
historical places. After a reception, a buffet dinner with dishes from all over the world including
the typical local cuisine will offer something for everyone's taste. The second, informal part of
the banquet will be accompanied by an artistic program.

Visit of INM (3 hours)
 

The Leibniz-Institut für Neue Materialien is a leading R&D institute for materials innovations
using chemical nanotechnology. Take this opportunity to gain insight into the laboratories of
INM and the affiliated NMO application center and see the variety of products that can be
realized by chemical nanotechnology during a visit of the permanent exhibition of INM.

Schott Glas, Mainz (7 hours)
 

Schott Glas is a world leader in glass manufacturing with a long-standing tradition. After a
2 hours bus trip to Mainz along the wineyards of 'Rheinhessen', the Schott glass museum
and different divisions of the glass works can be visited (2.5 hours). Subsequent to the visit
(approx. 18.00), a transfer to the railway station of Mainz will be organized for participants
who would like to take a train to Frankfurt airport.

A guided tour of Saarbruecken (2 hours)
 

Saarbruecken's past and present history can be discovered best during a guided walking
tour of the town. On the way from the new town hall to the 'Ludwig's Church' via the bridge
"Alte Bruecke" you will get to know the baroque part of Saarbruecken and see and hear many
interesting details about its "French period".

Metz - France (8 hours)
 

Since antiquity, a diversity of cultures has marked the town of Metz, the capital city of Lorraine
in France. Particularly striking is the golden 'Jaumont Stone' which characterizes the town's
facades and the St. Stephen's Cathedral with its extraordinary stained-glass windows made
by well-known artists like Marc Chagall. This historical town with medieval buildings, old
fortifications like the 'German Gate', palaces, monumental squares and the 'German Quarter'
is bound to fascinate its visitors.

Boat Trip to Guedingen (1 hour, 40 min)
 

The beautiful green landscape in the surrounding of Saarbruecken can best be enjoyed on a
boat trip on the Saar river. The excursion will take you along the city's lively and busy water front,
passing along the Castle and an artitistic power station near the 'Roemerbruecke'. One of the
highlights will be the passage through the sluice near Guedingen. On request, coffee and cake
can be served on the cruise.

Saarland -
World Cultural Heritage & Porcelain

The disused ironworks 'Alte Voelklinger Huette' were declared a UNESCO World Cultural
Heritage Site in 1994. Former steel workers will lead you through this unique example of the
industrial history of the 19th and 20th centuries. Afterwards you will enjoy a break at the
"Saarschleife", the horseshoe bend in the Saar nestling in the midst of the greenest part of
the Saarland, before continuing to Mettlach where you will enjoy a traditional lunch. Finally you
will visit Villeroy & Boch, the prestigious ceramics company, rich in tradition, and the porcelain
museum, and take a look behind the scenes.

120 km from Saarbruecken. Old Strasbourg, which is only accessible to pedestrians, is built
around the Gothic Cathedral, showing many well conserved houses dating from the XVIth
century, e.g. in the quarter 'La Petite France'. Since 1949, the city has also been a 'European
capital' with the headquarters of the European Council.
